ISLAMABAD Jan 2: Pakistan and India have exchanged lists of prisoners and nuclear installations at the start of the New Year, in line with bilateral agreements.
According to Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Hussain Andarabi, the two countries exchanged lists of prisoners, including details of 257 Indian prisoners. Under the agreement, Pakistan and India exchange prisoners’ lists twice a year.
The spokesperson said that the exchange of lists of nuclear installations also took place on January 1, and Pakistan handed over its list to India as part of the confidence-building measures between the two countries.
He added that Pakistan supports China’s position on Taiwan. Commenting on media reports regarding a controversial Indian hydropower project on the Chenab River, the spokesperson said that India has not provided any formal information to Pakistan. He emphasized that India cannot take any unilateral action that alters the status of the Indus Waters Treaty.
The Foreign Office further stated that Pakistan has sought details from India regarding the approval of the dam project on the Chenab River. Pakistan’s Indus Waters Commissioner has formally requested information, urging India to share complete details as required under the Indus Waters Treaty before initiating any such project.
