Opener Ibrahim Zadran struck an unbeaten 95 to guide Afghanistan to a commanding 82-run victory over Canada on Thursday in the T20 World Cup, ending their campaign on a high. Zadran smashed seven fours and five sixes in his 56-ball innings to help Afghanistan post 200-4 in Chennai.
Veteran spinner Mohammad Nabi starred with 4-7, restricting Canada to 118-8 for Afghanistan’s second win in the 20-team tournament. Despite this, Afghanistan missed out on the Super Eights, with New Zealand claiming the other qualification spot from Group D, topped by South Africa.
The win also marked the last match for former England batter Jonathan Trott as Afghanistan coach, who took over in July 2022.
