Islamabad Dec 29: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi have filed separate appeals in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) challenging their convictions in the Toshakhana-II case.
According to court documents, both appellants submitted individual pleas against the verdict, arguing that the prosecution failed to prove its case against them. The appeals maintain that the Bvlgari jewelry set was retained in accordance with Toshakhana rules applicable to former rulers.
The petitions further contend that Sohaib Abbasi was unlawfully made an approver and that the trial court wrongly relied on the statement of a pardon witness, which, they argue, could not legally form the basis of conviction.
It was also argued that the Special Central Court lacked jurisdiction to hear the case, that multiple punishments cannot be awarded for the same offence, and that the reference was filed without proper investigation. The appellants claimed they were being subjected to political victimization.
The pleas request the Islamabad High Court to set aside the Toshakhana-II verdict against Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi.
Imran Khan’s appeal has been assigned Diary No. 24560, while Bushra Bibi’s appeal carries Diary No. 24561.
It may be recalled that the Special Judge Central had sentenced both Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi to 17 years of imprisonment each, a verdict that has now been challenged before the high court.
