ISLAMABAD Dec31: In a surprising diplomatic development, Speaker National Assembly, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, met Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar in Dhaka despite ongoing tensions between Pakistan and India.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the funeral of former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, where both leaders were present. According to sources, Dr. Jaishankar personally approached Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, and the two leaders exchanged a handshake and brief pleasantries in what was described as a cordial interaction.

This encounter is being viewed as politically significant, as it marks the first high-level contact between Pakistan and India since the armed conflict between the two countries in May. Following that conflict, bilateral relations sharply deteriorated, leading to the suspension of political and diplomatic engagements.

Although the meeting was informal and no official talks were reported, political observers consider the interaction symbolic, raising speculation about the possibility of future backchannel or limited diplomatic contacts between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.
