Why Vitamin-D Deficiency Is Rising in Pakistan

Mazaj News (Web Desk):  Vitamin-D deficiency is silently affecting millions of Pakistanis. Importantly, this is happening despite the country’s abundant sunlight. As a result, many people experience fatigue, weak immunity, bone pain, and hormonal issues without realizing the cause.

Vitamin-D, often called the “sunshine vitamin,” helps the body absorb calcium. It also supports immunity, hormone balance, and mental health. Without enough Vitamin-D, bones can weaken, infections increase, and mood can suffer. Moreover, studies show that women, students, and office workers are especially at risk. This is because most people spend long hours indoors. Traditional clothing and limited outdoor activity add to the problem.

Symptoms to Watch For

Common signs of deficiency include:

Fatigue and low energy, Muscle or bone aches, Hair thinning or brittle nails, Frequent infections, Mood swings or depression and Hormonal imbalance in women

Notably, many people dismiss these symptoms. However, early recognition is key to preventing serious health problems.

First, urban lifestyles keep people indoors for most of the day.

Second, cultural clothing reduces sun exposure for women.
Third, air pollution blocks sunlight, lowering Vitamin-D production. [Internal link: air-pollution-health]
Finally, diets often lack Vitamin-D rich foods like eggs, fish, and fortified milk. Consequently, many Pakistanis do not get enough vitamin from food or sunlight alone.

Get Sunlight Daily: Experts recommend 10–30 minutes of sun exposure on face and arms each day. Also, morning sunlight is most effective.

Eat Vitamin-D Rich Foods: Include eggs, fish, fortified milk, and nuts. Moreover, a balanced diet supports overall health. [Internal link: nutrition-guide]

Use Supplements if Needed: Doctors may recommend Vitamin-D supplements after blood testing. However, avoid excessive doses. External link: WHO Vitamin-D guidelines
