ISLAMABAD Dec 28: MQM-Pakistan leader and Federal Minister Mustafa Kamal has alleged that the murder of senior MQM leader Dr. Imran Farooq was ordered by MQM founder Altaf Hussain.
Addressing a press conference in Karachi alongside party leaders, Mustafa Kamal claimed that Altaf Hussain, while intoxicated, ordered the killing of Imran Farooq on his birthday, calling it a “birthday gift.” Dr. Imran Farooq was murdered in London on September 17, 2010. Kamal alleged that the order for the killing came directly from Altaf Hussain.
He further accused the MQM founder of hypocrisy, stating that despite allegedly ordering the murder, Altaf Hussain later staged public sympathy and drama, including appeals for donations to repatriate Imran Farooq’s body to Pakistan. Kamal claimed that large sums of money were collected in the name of funeral arrangements, while the victim’s family was neglected.
Mustafa Kamal said that after Imran Farooq’s death, there was no meaningful contact with his family, and accused Altaf Hussain of exploiting both Imran Farooq’s death and, more recently, the passing of his widow for political purposes.
He alleged that London’s Metropolitan Police (Scotland Yard) was aware of who was behind the killing, claiming that Imran Farooq’s children were kept in hiding for days following the murder due to security concerns.
The federal minister described Altaf Hussain as a “traitor” to the Mohajir community, accusing him of destroying Karachi and exploiting party workers over decades. He said that despite having immense political power in the past, Altaf Hussain failed to pursue constitutional reforms when he had the opportunity.
Mustafa Kamal urged Imran Farooq’s children to seek justice through the courts and file a case to identify and punish those responsible for their father’s murder. He stated that he is ready to fully cooperate in any legal process to bring the killers to justice.
In response to questions, Kamal challenged Altaf Hussain to come forward and face him directly, insisting that history is being distorted and that the truth must be revealed. He concluded by saying that MQM-Pakistan is committed to rebuilding Karachi and undoing the damage he claims was caused by Altaf Hussain’s leadership.
