MAZAJ NEWS : A planned Imran Khan jail meeting with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders could not take place on Thursday after authorities at Adiala Jail did not grant approval.
PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja had earlier submitted a list of six party members to meet the former prime minister, including MNAs Shahid Khattak, Shabbir Ali Qureshi, Javed Waraich, Adil Bazai, Sohail Sultan and Major (Retd) Fayyaz Ahmed.
According to PTI leader Shabbir Ali Qureshi, the delegation arrived at Adiala Jail around 1:30pm and requested permission for the Imran Khan jail meeting, citing directions from the court. Jail officials told them the names had been forwarded for approval and asked them to wait.
However, the meeting did not receive clearance before the 3pm cut-off time for prison visits during Ramazan, forcing the leaders to leave without seeing the PTI founder.
Meanwhile, senior PTI leaders currently imprisoned at Kot Lakhpat Jail in Lahore urged the government to reconsider its stance toward the party and facilitate an Imran Khan jail meeting. In a statement, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Dr Yasmin Rashid, Ejaz Chaudhry, Mian Mahmoodur Rasheed and Omar Sarfraz Cheema said dialogue was necessary in the national interest.
The leaders also warned that regional tensions and rising security challenges could have serious consequences for Pakistan and stressed the need for political stability.
