ISLAMABAD: Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Asim Munir held discussions with United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio on global and regional security issues, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
Field Marshal Munir visited Germany from February 12 to 14 to participate in meetings on the sidelines of the 62nd Munich Security Conference. During his trip, he engaged with several international dignitaries to discuss matters of strategic importance.
ISPR stated that Munir and Rubio addressed mutual concerns, including counterterrorism efforts and regional stability. The army chief also met Germany’s Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt, Foreign Policy and Security Adviser to the German Chancellor Günter Sautter, and Chief of Defence Carsten Breuer, focusing on contemporary security challenges, bilateral defense cooperation, and the importance of multilateral dialogue to foster global peace.
Additionally, CDF Munir held talks with Brazilian Armed Forces Chief of the Joint Staff Renato Rodrigues de Aguiar Freire on enhancing military cooperation. He also met Lebanese Armed Forces Commander Rodolph Haykal to discuss regional security and ways to strengthen bilateral defense collaboration.
Earlier, in January, Field Marshal Munir had visited Switzerland, where he and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held informal talks with Rubio and other world leaders during the World Economic Forum (WEF). During that visit, they also met with Ilham Aliyev, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan, and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan.
