UN Security Council slams Afghanistan over failure to curb terrorism

NEW YORK: The United Nations Security Council has expressed strong concern and frustration over Afghanistan’s failure to fully implement counterterrorism measures, with several member states sharply criticizing the Taliban for allowing militant groups to operate from Afghan territory.

During a Security Council meeting, the international community issued a clear warning to the Taliban regime, stating that Afghan soil is being used to fuel terrorism across the region, including attacks in Pakistan. Multiple delegations described Afghanistan as a safe haven for terrorist organizations, reflecting a rare consensus at the global forum.

China’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Fu Cong, warned that militant groups including the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and others remain active in Afghanistan and are involved in cross-border attacks targeting neighboring countries.
