Trump Rejects Iran’s Proposal, Casting Doubt on Peace as War Tensions Escalate

Mazaj News (Web Desk) The United States is dissatisfied with Iran’s latest proposal aimed at ending the two-month-long conflict, according to a US official, casting doubt over any near-term breakthrough. The ongoing war has already disrupted global energy supplies, driven inflation higher, and resulted in heavy casualties.

Under Tehran’s proposal, discussions about its nuclear programme would be postponed until a ceasefire is achieved and maritime disputes in the Gulf are settled. However, Washington has made it clear that nuclear concerns must be addressed at the very beginning of any agreement. The official, speaking anonymously after a meeting between President Donald Trump and his advisers, said this was the main reason behind the president’s frustration.

A White House spokesperson reiterated that the US would not conduct negotiations through the media and emphasized that its key conditions remain unchanged as efforts continue to end the conflict, which began in February with US and Israeli involvement.

The situation is further complicated by the collapse of the 2015 nuclear agreement, which had significantly limited Iran’s nuclear activities in exchange for sanctions relief. That deal unraveled after Trump withdrew from it during his first term.

Prospects for renewed diplomacy have weakened in recent days. A planned visit to Islamabad by US envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner was abruptly canceled, even as Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi made multiple trips to the city over the weekend. Araqchi also traveled to Oman and later to Russia, where he met President Vladimir Putin and secured public backing from a key ally.
