SBP Receives Final $1 Billion Tranche of $3 Billion Saudi Deposit

Mazaj News (Web Desk) The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has confirmed the receipt of $1 billion from the Ministry of Finance of Saudi Arabia, completing the second installment of a recently agreed $3 billion deposit arrangement.

In an official statement issued on Tuesday, the central bank said the latest tranche was credited with a value date of April 20, 2026. This follows the earlier disbursement of $2 billion received on April 15, bringing the total inflow under the agreement to the full $3 billion.

The financial support comes shortly after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s visit to Saudi Arabia, where he held high-level meetings aimed at strengthening regional stability and economic cooperation.

During his visit to Jeddah, the prime minister met Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and expressed gratitude for Saudi Arabia’s continued assistance in supporting Pakistan’s economic resilience. He also reaffirmed Pakistan’s solidarity with the Kingdom amid recent regional tensions.

Earlier, on April 16, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb had stated that Saudi Arabia had committed an additional $3 billion in support, which was expected to be disbursed soon. He also highlighted that the Kingdom had extended its existing $5 billion deposit arrangement, removing the previous requirement for annual renewal.

The latest inflows have further strengthened Pakistan’s external financial position, coming alongside the repayment of $2 billion in debt to the United Arab Emirates, which had been maintained as a secure central bank deposit.

Saudi Arabia remains a key economic partner for Pakistan and has repeatedly provided financial assistance during periods of economic pressure, including a $6 billion support package in 2018 consisting of deposits and oil financing arrangements.
