ISLAMABAD Jan 7: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed authorities to formulate a bold five-year strategy to revive Pakistan’s weakening agricultural exports, along with comprehensive reforms and farmer training programs to help meet global market requirements.
According to details the Prime Minister issued these instructions while chairing a meeting of a newly established working group that includes private sector experts. He emphasized the need to align the country’s agricultural production with international standards in order to boost exports.
He stated that the federal and provincial governments are fully committed to advancing agricultural reforms across the country.
The Prime Minister stressed that increasing per-acre yield is a key objective, which requires improved access to quality seeds, fertilizers, and agricultural chemicals, as well as raising farmers’ awareness of international quality standards.
He added that reforms in the agricultural sector and educating farmers about modern requirements are essential for the country’s economic growth.
The focus, he said, will be on improving productivity, modernizing processing systems, and ensuring that agricultural products meet export-quality standards.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also highlighted government initiatives to promote sustainable agricultural practices, noting that the decision to send 1,000 Pakistani students to China for training in modern agricultural technologies is part of this broader effort.
