Peter Steinberger an open-source AI developer has renamed his project from Clawdbot to Moltbot , after artificial intelligence company Anthropic requested over trademark concerns. The Peter Steinberger said Anthropic handled the situation politely, but the rebrand led to unexpected problems when it was implemented.
Anthropic is a U.S.-based AI company best known for developing the Claude family of large language models. The company owns trademarks related to the Claude name and associated branding. According to Peter Steinberger , Anthropic contacted him by email and asked him to change the name of Clawdbot as it was really similar to its Claude brand

Peter Steinberger changed Clawdbot name to Moltbot which end up causing problems as the day new name was announced the old social media handles were taken over by scammers and fake crypto projects appeared using the Clawdbot name, causing confusion among users.
Steinberger said Anthropic was “really nice” in its communication and did not involve lawyers. The incident has highlighted the risks and challenges open-source developers can face when rebranding well-known projects in the fast-growing AI industry.
