The 14th edition of the South Asian Games is set to take place in Pakistan from March 23 to 31, 2027, a decision made during a recent meeting of South Asian Olympic Federations in Tashkent.
According to a statement issued by the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) on Tuesday, the meeting “unanimously agreed on the March 23–31 dates,” while granting the Pakistan Olympic Association flexibility to adjust the schedule by up to one week if needed for operational or logistical reasons.
The meeting was held in Uzbekistan’s capital on the sidelines of the 46th General Assembly of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA). The South Asian Olympic community also congratulated Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani on his election as OCA President.
Chaired by HRH Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck, OCA Vice-President for South Asia, the gathering included the Presidents and/or Secretaries General of the National Olympic Committees of Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.
India’s participation in the Games will remain uncertain, as the country has in recent years refrained from sending teams to Pakistan due to political tensions between the two nations.
Representing Pakistan, Arif Saeed, President of the Pakistan Olympic Association and South Asia Olympic Council, and Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani, Federal Secretary of the Ministry of Sports, attended the meeting.
It was confirmed that the disciplines and events for the 2027 Games will remain consistent with those finalised at the SAOC Executive Committee Meeting in Lahore in February last year.
Additionally, South Asian countries agreed to explore strategies for a more sustainable, long-term model for regional sports development and cooperation, aiming to improve the organization and delivery of multi-sport events.
The POA statement also noted that Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani invited the South Asian nations to visit Pakistan in May 2026 to review preparations for the Games and strengthen regional collaboration in sports.
