Tehran: Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf on Sunday declared that the militaries of European countries that recently listed the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization will be considered “terrorist groups” under Iranian law.
The European Union took the step on Thursday, marking a symbolic shift in its stance toward Iran’s leadership, by designating the Revolutionary Guards a terrorist entity. The move came in the aftermath of one of Iran’s deadliest crackdowns on protests since the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

“By targeting the Revolutionary Guards, the Europeans have actually harmed themselves and once again acted against the interests of their own people by blindly following the Americans,” Qalibaf told fellow MPs, who were dressed in Revolutionary Guards uniforms in solidarity with the elite force.
He added, “Under Article 7 of the law on countermeasures against the IRGC’s designation as a terrorist organization, the armies of European countries are now considered terrorist groups.” The parliamentary national security commission will review potential measures, including the expulsion of EU military attaches, and coordinate with the Foreign Ministry to address the issue.
Founded after the 1979 Islamic Revolution to safeguard the ruling system, the IRGC wields significant influence in Iran, controlling large parts of the country’s economy and armed forces.
