HEC Makes AI Course Mandatory for All Degree Programs from 2026

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan has announced that a three-credit-hour course on Artificial Intelligence (AI) will be mandatory for all undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs starting from the 2026 academic session.

The directive applies to all public and private universities, which are instructed to incorporate the compulsory AI course into their curricula immediately. The course may be offered as an elective, interdisciplinary, or supporting subject.

HEC stated that the move aims to equip students with essential AI knowledge and skills, preparing them for the fast-evolving professional and academic landscape of the 21st century.
