Mazaj News (Web Desk) Alyssa Healy, who has been a key figure in Australia’s highly successful women’s cricket team for the past 15 years and currently serves as captain, has confirmed she will retire after the forthcoming multi-format series against India.
Speaking on Tuesday, the 35-year-old said the decision came with mixed feelings, adding that the upcoming series against India would be her final appearance for Australia. Healy, a wicketkeeper-batter, played a major role in Australia’s success, winning two ODI World Cups and six T20 World Cups before taking over the captaincy following Meg Lanning’s retirement in late 2023.
“I still love representing Australia, but I feel the competitive drive that pushed me throughout my career has faded slightly, and it feels like the right moment to step away,” Healy said. “I will truly miss my teammates, singing the team song, and walking out to open the batting for my country.”
Healy made her international debut in 2010 and went on to score 3,563 runs, including seven centuries, in One-Day Internationals, along with 3,054 runs and one century in T20 Internationals. Behind the stumps, she recorded 275 dismissals and holds the record for the most dismissals (126) in women’s T20 international cricket.
Despite being related to former Australian wicketkeeping great Ian Healy and married to fast bowler Mitchell Starc, Healy established her own identity through her performances and leadership.
Having already stepped away from T20 internationals, Healy will conclude her international career with three ODIs and one Test against India in February and March. Although women’s cricket has grown significantly during her playing years, her final appearance will be just her 11th Test, having missed only two matches in the longest format since her debut in January 2011.
After becoming Australia’s full-time captain in 2023, Healy memorably led the team to a historic 16-0 clean sweep against England, further cementing her legacy as one of the game’s modern greats.
