Marka-i-Haq Monument in Rawalpindi to Be Completed in Early May

RAWALPINDI: A monument is being developed at Baggi Park in Kutchery Chowk, opposite Fatima Jinnah Women University, and is expected to be completed in the first week of May.

According to officials, the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) has been given the responsibility to construct the Marka-i-Haq Monument on The Mall. A senior district administration officer told Dawn that the structure is a replica of the monument located in H-8 Islamabad, but this project is unique as it is being built within an already established park, without acquiring any additional land.

The official added that the project is likely to be finished before May 10, marking the first anniversary of Marka-i-Haq. He said the provincial government is funding the initiative, which has been launched on its instructions.

He further explained that the purpose of the monument is to pay tribute to the sacrifices of martyrs and ghazis of Operation Bunyanum Marsoos and to honour those who lost their lives. The theme of the project reflects national unity, resilience, and collective strength in the face of challenges.

The Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) has also been tasked with improving the surrounding park area and has already begun development work there.

Meanwhile, the Rawalpindi Municipal Corporation (RMC) has proposed naming the Kutchery Chowk flyover and underpass as “Marka-i-Haq Flyover and Underpass” and has invited public objections, if any, in accordance with legal requirements for renaming major roads and intersections.

An RMC official stated that a public hearing will be conducted before final approval, after which a committee will decide on the proposed name.

Separately, over 80 percent of work on the Kutchery Chowk remodeling project has been completed. The district administration has directed that the entire project be completed by May 31.

Progress on key components includes 76 percent completion of the Kutchery intersection, 74 percent on Iftikhar Janjua Road, 75 percent at Jinnah Park Chowk, 83 percent on utility ducts, and 55 percent on a pedestrian bridge.

The divisional commissioner noted that the project is advancing rapidly in double shifts, with an initial timeline of 18 months shortened significantly. He added that the target completion date has been set for May 2026 and instructed authorities to further accelerate construction work.
