ISLAMABAD — The opposition alliance Tehreek Tahaffuz-e-Aiyeen Pakistan (TTAP), led by Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, announced on Wednesday the conclusion of its sit-in at Parliament House, which had been staged to press for the health rights of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan.
Addressing the media, Allama Nasir Abbas clarified that the protest by lawmakers was solely over concerns about the PTI founder’s medical condition, a matter that had also been raised in court. He emphasized that the alliance’s central demand remained allowing Imran Khan’s personal doctors to see him.
He alleged that during the sit-in, Parliament had been effectively converted into a “jail,” with protesters facing restricted movement and blocked exits when attempting to leave the premises.
Allama Nasir noted that reports of the PTI founder’s eye condition had previously prompted Mahmood Khan Achakzai to suggest a hunger strike, leading the alliance to intensify the protest to ensure access for his personal physicians.
Announcing the decision to end the sit-in, the TTAP chief reiterated that the emotions of Imran Khan’s sisters were justified and they should be allowed to meet him. He expressed hope for an improvement in the PTI founder’s eyesight and demanded his transfer to Shifa International Hospital for further treatment.
Earlier consultations on the sit-in were held in and around the Supreme Court of Pakistan, where Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi was also present. Sources indicated that opposition leadership continued discussions outside the Supreme Court regarding the protest’s next steps.
Street Movement Plans
KP CM Sohail Afridi separately stated that he had been tasked by the incarcerated PTI founder to lead a “street movement.” Afridi alleged that court directives were being ignored and claimed that Imran Khan continued to be denied access to his personal doctors.
He announced the creation of a “PTI Founder Release Force,” which will be officially registered to conduct a peaceful struggle. Members of the force are expected to take an oath in Peshawar immediately after Eid.
Afridi added that the force will operate under a clear command structure, with Imran Khan determining leadership responsibilities. He emphasized that preparations would be completed before any action is launched.
The Chief Minister said the movement will focus on upholding the Constitution, protecting democracy, and supporting an independent media.
