Deadly Attack in Balochistan’s Chagai: 9 Workers Killed at Copper-Gold Site

Mazaj News (Web Desk) At least nine workers lost their lives in an armed assault at a copper and gold exploration site in the Chagai district of Balochistan.

According to National Resources Limited (NRL), the incident occurred on Wednesday evening when unidentified armed men targeted the site. The company said security personnel, including Frontier Corps units, quickly reached the location, secured the area, and initiated a clearance operation.

While NRL did not initially confirm any fatalities, local administration officials later verified that nine people had been killed in the attack.

A senior Chagai district official, speaking on condition of anonymity, stated that the deceased included at least two security guards. Police authorities also confirmed the deaths and said all nine bodies were shifted to Prince Fahad Hospital in Dalbandin.

In its statement, NRL reiterated its commitment to supporting local communities in Balochistan, emphasizing job creation and economic development. The company highlighted that more than 90% of its workforce at the Darigwan site is drawn from within Balochistan.

NRL further stated that it is in close coordination with relevant authorities and stressed that the safety and security of its employees and operations remain its top priority.

National Resources Limited is a Pakistani mining joint venture involving Lucky Cement, Fatima Fertiliser, and Liberty Mills. The company is engaged in the exploration of copper-gold and lead-zinc reserves in Chagai and has reported significant mineral findings.
