ISLAMABAD, Dec 9 : Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto was accorded a warm reception and a ceremonial guard of honour on Tuesday upon his arrival at the Prime Minister’s House for official meeying with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
Prime Minister Shehbaz welcomed President Subianto at the entrance, where the formal ceremony was held. The national anthems of both countries were played as the two leaders stood on the saluting dais.
A contingent representing the three services of Pakistan’s armed forces presented the guard of honour, which President Subianto inspected.
Following the ceremony, both leaders introduced the members of their respective delegations before heading into a one-on-one meeting, to be followed by delegation-level talks.
During these discussions, Pakistan and Indonesia will review the entire spectrum of bilateral relations and explore opportunities for enhanced cooperation in areas including trade, energy, defence, education, people-to-people exchanges, and regional connectivity.
Several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) are expected to be signed to advance collaboration across multiple sectors.
President Subianto also planted a commemorative sapling in the PM House lawn.
The main routes and avenues of Islamabad were decorated with the national flags of both countries and large portraits of the visiting leader in honour of the visit.
During his stay, President Subianto will also meet President Asif Ali Zardari.
This marks President Prabowo’s first visit to Pakistan since assuming his office, and the first Indonesian presidential visit since Joko Widodo’s trip in 2018. The visit is particularly significant as it coincides with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Indonesia.
