ECP Issues schedule for Islamabad local govt elections

ISLAMABAD by Waqar Abbasi (Dec 9): The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has issued the schedule for local government elections in the federal capital despite strong opposition from the government to holding the polls.

According to the notification, local government elections in Islamabad will be held on February 15, 2026.

Appointment of DRO, ROs & AROs for the conduct of LG. Elections in ICT (1)

The ECP has appointed the Deputy Commissioner of Islamabad as District Returning Officer (DRO) for all 121 union councils, while the principals of 16 colleges have been designated as Returning Officers (ROs).

The commission has also issued a notification for the appointment of Assistant Returning Officers (AROs) and other polling staff.

Additionally, the ECP has stopped all transfers and postings within the Islamabad administration until the completion of the election process.
