ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan on Monday claimed that Imran Khan “can never be minus,” asserting that 70 percent of Pakistan’s population continues to support the former prime minister.
Speaking to media outside Parliament House, Barrister Gohar urged all stakeholders to “think positively about democracy,” stressing that the PTI founder remains the leader of a major political party and enjoys strong public backing.
He said Imran Khan could not be sidelined under any circumstances, adding that the former premier was not the kind of leader who could be excluded from national politics. He appealed to the authorities to allow meetings between Imran Khan, his wife Bushra Bibi, and their family members.
Commenting on recent political developments, Gohar questioned when Bushra Bibi’s family last met her and spoke to the media afterward. He expressed surprise that KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi was “thinking about imposing governor’s rule” despite holding the constitutional office, and insisted that “governor’s rule will never be imposed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.”
Barrister Gohar said PTI wanted stability and improvement in the province and did not want any deterioration of the situation. He alleged that those advocating governor’s rule were “trying to provoke chaos” and encouraging people to take the law into their own hands.
He asked critics to explain when they had advised the chief minister to correct any governance issues instead of calling for constitutional intervention. “Every day someone says governor’s rule is being imposed. Is this how you treat the public mandate?” he questioned.
Gohar said such press conferences and statements only served “Pakistan’s enemies,” adding that anyone who believed in democracy would be deeply troubled by the current political atmosphere.
He warned that the public was becoming increasingly disappointed with political divisions. “People are looking toward us, but we have become entangled among ourselves, which is causing public frustration,” he said.
Barrister Gohar reiterated his request for authorities to allow meetings between the PTI founder, Bushra Bibi, and their family members. “If these meetings take place, you will see positivity instead of negativity,” he added.
