PTCL Returns to Profit After 4 Years, Set to Launch 5G Next Month

Mazaj News (Web Desk) Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) has returned to profitability after more than four years and is preparing to officially roll out 5G services next month.

PTCL and Ufone CEO Hatem Bamatraf announced the group’s financial results for the first quarter of 2026 (January–March), stating that revenues rose by 58% compared to the same period last year.

He noted that although the company had faced several challenges in recent years, performance has improved significantly since January, following the consolidation of Telenor Pakistan’s financial results into the PTCL Group. This integration has strengthened growth across fixed broadband, enterprise, wholesale, and mobile segments.

During the quarter, operating profit increased sharply by 564% due to the inclusion of Telenor Pakistan, while the group posted a net profit of Rs3.1 billion, recovering from a net loss of Rs4 billion in Q1 2025.

5G launch planned

Bamatraf added that the company is now moving into a phase of steady and sustainable growth. He further said that after the completion of the Ufone and Telenor Pakistan merger, customers will experience improved service quality.

He also confirmed that Ufone is expected to launch 5G services in May, after receiving a commercial licence from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).

Economic outlook

Separately, PTCL Group CFO Nadeem Khan said that the financial impact of ongoing conflict conditions is likely to be reflected in the second quarter of 2026, starting in April, particularly through rising interest rates and fuel costs.

He added that the overall effect will depend on how the situation develops, but assured that the company has mitigation strategies in place to manage potential risks.

Meanwhile, U Bank, another subsidiary of the group, reported Rs5.8 billion in revenue and showed significant improvement in profitability, indicating a strong recovery in its banking operations.
