Trump Extends Iran Ceasefire as Pakistan Pushes Peace Talks

Mazaj News (Web Desk) US President Donald Trump has extended the ceasefire with Iran, allowing additional time for ongoing peace negotiations, while Tehran has not yet responded to the decision.

Trump postponed the end of the previously set two-week truce indefinitely, citing a request from mediator Pakistan and saying Iran’s “fractured” leadership needs more time to prepare a proposal. However, he confirmed that the US naval blockade of Iran’s ports will remain in place, a key issue for Tehran.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump accused Iran of wanting to keep the Strait of Hormuz open “to earn $500 million a day,” warning that such revenue could be lost if the situation escalates.

He emphasized that maintaining the US blockade of the strategic waterway—through which nearly one-fifth of global oil and gas passes—is essential for reaching any agreement with Iran.

“People came to me four days ago saying Iran wants the Strait opened immediately. But if that happens, there will be no deal unless we destroy what remains of their country, including their leadership,” Trump stated.

Earlier, Trump had suggested he was not interested in extending the ceasefire and had warned of renewed military action once it expired.

He later wrote that he had instructed the military to keep the blockade active and remain prepared, while extending the ceasefire until Iran submits a formal proposal.

The original ceasefire timeline had been unclear, though Pakistan indicated it would end at 2350 GMT on Tuesday. That deadline passed without reports of renewed hostilities, while Iran had previously stated the truce would conclude at 0000 GMT. Tehran has not yet issued a response to the extension.

The future of Pakistan-hosted peace talks remains uncertain following Trump’s announcement. A White House official also confirmed that US Vice President JD Vance would not travel to Pakistan as planned, pending Iran’s submission of a proposal.
