ISLAMABAD Dec27: The central ceremony marking the 18th death anniversary of former Prime Minister Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto is being held at Garhi Khuda Bakhsh. Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) workers from across the country are arriving in large numbers, while reception camps have been set up at various locations.
Benazir Bhutto’s daughter, Aseefa Bhutto, along with Faryal Talpur, visited the mausoleum of Benazir Bhutto and laid floral wreaths. They also paid homage at the graves of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Murtaza Bhutto, and Shahnawaz Bhutto. PPP Sindh General Secretary Senator Waqar Mehdi, along with other party leaders and workers, also visited the mausoleum and offered prayers.
The Sindh government has announced a public holiday on the occasion of the death anniversary of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto. Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Faisal Mumtaz Rathore, has also declared a public holiday in AJK in observance of the day.
Biography of Benazir Bhutto
Benazir Bhutto faced immense personal and political hardships throughout her life. Her father, former Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, was executed, while her two brothers were killed. She endured harsh military dictatorships and years of exile but never stepped back from her struggle for democracy.
Known as Daughter of the East, Benazir Bhutto holds the distinction of being the first woman Prime Minister of the Muslim world. She served as Prime Minister of Pakistan twice and is regarded by political analysts as one of the leaders who faced the toughest challenges in the country’s political history. She also gained significant recognition at the international level.
Benazir Bhutto was born on June 21, 1953, in Karachi. She received her early education from the Convent of Jesus and Mary and Karachi Grammar School, and later studied Political Science and International Law at Harvard University and the University of Oxford.
