LAHORE: Two policemen were martyred and one injured in a suicide blast at the Dajil checkpost in Bhakkar district on Tuesday evening, officials said. Three passersby were also wounded in the attack.
Bhakkar District Police Officer Shahzad Rafiq said the suicide attacker detonated explosives near the checkpost while a search operation was underway. The martyred policemen were identified as Muhammad Faheem and Muhammad Shehbaz, while the injured officer is Arshad. The injured were taken to the District Headquarters Hospital.
President Asif Ali Zardari and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz condemned the attack, offering condolences to the families of the martyred officers and praying for the speedy recovery of the injured. Authorities have been directed to provide the best possible medical care.
The blast comes on the same day that six law enforcement personnel, including a deputy superintendent, were killed in a terrorist attack in Kohat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The Dajil checkpost lies on the border of Dera Ismail Khan and Bhakkar.
