ISLAMABAD Jan 6: During an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council on the situation in Venezuela, China and Russia demanded the immediate release of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife. Pakistan also urged that the Venezuela issue be resolved through dialogue and mutual understanding.
Meanwhile, UN Secretary-General António Guterres described the US action against Venezuela as a violation of international law.
The emergency meeting of the UN Security Council is being held to discuss the situation in Venezuela, with the agenda focusing on threats to international peace and security.
Addressing the Security Council, Pakistan emphasized the need to resolve the Venezuela crisis through understanding and cooperation. Pakistan’s Acting Permanent Representative, Usman Jadoon, stated that dialogue and diplomacy should be used to resolve the dispute, warning that unilateral military action would only increase instability.
He stressed that the UN Charter does not allow the use of force against the sovereignty or territorial integrity of any country. Jadoon further said that the world is already facing multiple crises, and tensions in the Caribbean are not in the interest of regional or global peace. Such a serious step, he warned, would not set a good precedent and could lead to unpredictable consequences in the future.
