Islamabad: A high-level delegation of Transparency International (TI), led by its Chairman Mr. Francois Valerian, called on Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Lieutenant General (Retd) Nazir Ahmed and held a detailed discussion on promoting transparency, accountability and good governance.
The four-member delegation and NAB leadership exchanged views on strengthening mutual cooperation to effectively combat corruption. Chairman NAB emphasized that corruption is a global challenge and can only be addressed through collective and coordinated efforts at national and international levels.
During the meeting, Chairman NAB briefed the TI delegation on key institutional reforms undertaken by NAB, including the introduction of digital systems and the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to enhance transparency, efficiency and accountability in investigations and recoveries.
Chairman NAB informed the delegation that NAB achieved record recoveries amounting to trillions of rupees in 2025 alone. He further stated that NAB’s total recoveries over the past three years have reached Rs. 115 trillion, reflecting the bureau’s strong focus on results-oriented accountability.
He added that NAB has provided relief to more than 115,000 victims of fake housing societies and fraudulent investment schemes, ensuring protection of citizens from financial exploitation. To safeguard the value of recovered funds, NAB has also introduced profit-generating accounts to prevent depreciation of recovered amounts.
Chairman NAB reiterated that the bureau’s primary focus remains on a results-based system and successful actions in major corruption cases.
Chairman Transparency International Mr. Francois Valerian appreciated NAB’s reform initiatives and its efforts to align operations with international standards. Both sides agreed to continue constructive engagement and the exchange of credible data to further strengthen transparency and accountability mechanisms.
The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to sustained cooperation in the fight against corruption and the promotion of good governance.
