Islamabad:
A meeting regarding the Shahdara Dam project was held under the chairmanship of Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Muhammad Ali Randhawa. The meeting was attended by CDA Board Member Admin, Talat Mehmood; Member Planning & Design, Dr. Khalid Hafeez; Director General Islamabad Water; Deputy Commissioner CDA; and senior officials from Islamabad Water.
During the briefing, relevant officials informed the CDA Chairman about water management projects and reported that WAPDA has completed the feasibility study for the Shahdara Dam project. The complete feasibility report has been shared with the CDA.
The briefing noted that the feasibility report includes preliminary estimates for land acquisition, water transmission, a water treatment plant, and other initial assessments. The Shahdara Dam is expected to store water over an area of 25 acres and will have the capacity to supply 10 million gallons of water daily to Islamabad residents.
Officials further stated that work on detailed designs will begin immediately after the completion of the feasibility report, and the PC-I will be prepared soon for approval.
Chairman CDA Muhammad Ali Randhawa directed that a formal survey should be conducted with SUPARCO before acquiring land for the dam. He emphasized that all matters related to land acquisition should be handled transparently and in accordance with legal requirements. He further instructed that the feasibility report and detailed designs should be presented to the committee established to resolve water issues of the twin cities for approval.
The meeting also discussed the Dotara Dam project, with officials informing that work on the feasibility report is currently ongoing.
Chairman CDA stated that these projects will play a crucial role in meeting the water needs of the federal capital, Islamabad, and ensuring uninterrupted water supply in the city is among our top priorities.
