Mazaj News: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday said Pakistan–Kuwait relations are based on strong brotherly ties and are set to further strengthen through bilateral economic, investment and trade cooperation.
He made these remarks while addressing a ceremony in Islamabad marking the issuance of a digital licence to Raqami Islamic Digital Bank. The prime minister congratulated Raqami Islamic Digital Bank on becoming the third licensed digital retail bank in Pakistan and expressed hope that it would be fully Sharia-compliant while significantly supporting the growth of the country’s banking sector.
“This development will go a long way in further enhancing bilateral economic relations between Pakistan and Kuwait,” he said, while also expressing gratitude to the Kuwaiti leadership for their continued support to Pakistan.
Raqami Islamic Digital Bank Limited was awarded a restricted banking licence by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) in May 2025 to commence pilot operations. The bank is backed by Pakistan Kuwait Investment Company (Private) Limited and Enertech Holding Company KSC, a subsidiary of Kuwait’s sovereign wealth fund, the Kuwait Investment Authority.
