Former Judge Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui Resigns as NIRC Chairman

Islamabad Dec 15 : Justice (Retired) Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui, who was serving as the Chairman of the National Industrial Relations Commission (NIRC), has submitted his resignation and a one-month notice to resign from the post.

Justice Siddiqui sent the resignation notice to President Asif Ali Zardari through the Secretary of the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis, citing personal reasons for his decision. He stated in the notice that due to certain circumstances he was no longer able to discharge his responsibilities.

He was appointed as Chairman of the NIRC in December 2024 for a three-year term after approval by the federal cabinet. He assumed the position on 4 December 2024 following the issuance of his appointment notification on 2 December 2024.

The NIRC is tasked with handling industrial relations matters, including union registration and resolving disputes in unfair labour practices.

Justice Siddiqui had previously served as a judge of the Islamabad High Court (IHC), and his removal from the bench in 2018 was later declared illegal by the Supreme Court, which led to his retirement being recognised and subsequent eligibility for post-retirement appointments
