Islamabad: The Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco) has announced that the first day of Ramazan 1447 AH is expected to fall on February 19, 2026, based on astronomical calculations.
According to Suparco, the new moon (Hilal) is predicted to be born on February 17, 2026, at 5:01 pm. By the time of sunset on February 18, the moon will be approximately 25 hours and 48 minutes old, with a duration of 59 minutes between sunset and moonset along the coastal regions of Pakistan.
“Based on these parameters, the 1st of Ramazan is likely to be on February 19, 2026,” the statement read.
However, Suparco emphasized that the final confirmation of the beginning of Ramazan will be made by the Ruet-i-Hilal Committee, the official authority responsible for moon sighting, after receiving credible witness reports from across the country.
Earlier this week, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) stated that there is a fair chance of sighting the new moon on the evening of February 18, 2026, as weather conditions are expected to be partly cloudy or fair in most parts of the country.
This announcement allows Muslims across Pakistan to plan for Ramadan preparations, including fasting schedules and special religious activities, with the official moon sighting expected closer to the evening of February 18.
