ISLAMABAD: The Al-Shifa Eye Trust Hospital in Rawalpindi has designated 10 rooms for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, who is set to be transferred from Adiala Jail for ophthalmic treatment, with specialised medical and security arrangements in place, The News reported.
General Rehmat Khan, president of Al-Shifa Trust Eye Hospital, said late Saturday that the rooms, originally built for juvenile patients in the Administration Block, have been allocated specifically for the PTI leader. He added that Imran Khan could be moved to the operation theatre via a dedicated channel to ensure privacy and safety.
The hospital’s Department of Vitreo-Retina, known for treating complex retinal conditions, has been briefed on the patient. The department provides care for retinal disorders such as macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, age-related retinal diseases, complex retinal detachments, retinal vascular problems, and posterior segment trauma.
Prof. Dr. Nadeem Qureshi, chief consultant and head of the department, who is considered among the top retinal specialists in Asia, will lead a team of 10 expert doctors to oversee the treatment.
General Rehmat also stated that Brigadier Khalid Yazdani, chief of the Administrative Unit, has been instructed to ensure all logistical and security arrangements are in place.
Sources confirmed that Imran Khan will remain at the hospital for the duration necessary for his treatment. During this time, the road leading to the Administration Block will be sealed, and unauthorized access will be strictly prohibited.
The hospital is located about a 15-minute drive from Adiala Jail, and the administration is awaiting formal instructions from the government regarding the transfer and treatment process.
