Indian oppression cannot break the resolve of Kashmiris: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif

ISLAMABAD Jan 5:Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif has said that India’s oppression and use of force have failed to weaken the determination of the Kashmiri people.

In his message on Kashmiris’ Right to Self-Determination Day, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated that on January 5, the United Nations Security Council recognized the right of self-determination of the Kashmiri people through its resolutions. He recalled that on January 5, 1949, the UN Commission for India and Pakistan adopted a historic resolution.

The prime minister said the resolution decided that the future of the state of Jammu and Kashmir would be determined through a free and impartial plebiscite. However, he expressed regret that this commitment could not be fulfilled due to India’s illegal occupation of Jammu and Kashmir.

Shehbaz Sharif further said that the people of Indian-occupied Kashmir have been facing atrocities by Indian occupying forces for the past eight decades, and urged the international community to take concrete steps to end India’s oppressive actions.
