China urges US to stop destabilizing Venezuela, demands immediate release of president Maduro, his wife

ISLAMABAD Jan 4: China has called on the United States to immediately release Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, urging Washington to stop its attempts to destabilize the Venezuelan government.

In a statement, China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the US attack on Venezuela violates international law and expressed deep concern over the use of force to detain President Maduro and his wife and transfer them out of the country.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry emphasized that the United States should immediately release President Nicolás Maduro and his wife and resolve the issue through dialogue.

Russia, Colombia, and Cuba have also condemned the US attack on Venezuela, while Iran has called on the UN Security Council to take immediate action and hold those responsible accountable.

Chilean President Gabriel Boric warned the international community, saying, “Today it is Venezuela, tomorrow it could be another country.” He cautioned that if such actions can be justified today under the pretext of narcotics, similar actions could occur elsewhere in the future.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres expressed serious concern over the US operation, stating that international legal norms are not being respected.

It is worth noting that during a press conference in Florida, US President Donald Trump announced criminal charges against Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, stating that Maduro and his wife were being transferred to New York to face trial.

President Trump said that, on his orders, the US military carried out an extraordinary operation in the Venezuelan capital, showcasing air, land, and naval power, calling it a remarkable demonstration of US military strength.
