ISLAMABAD Dec 19: An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) has acquitted Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) senior leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi in the case related to the May 9 attack at Club Chowk, GOR Gate.
The verdict was announced by ATC Judge Manzar Ali Gul at Kot Lakhpat Jail, where the court heard the case. Shah Mahmood Qureshi was cleared of all charges in the matter.
However, the court sentenced Dr. Yasmin Rashid, Mian Mahmood-ur-Rasheed, Ejaz Chaudhry, and Umar Sarfraz Cheema to 10 years’ imprisonment each for their involvement in the attack.
During the trial, final statements of 21 accused, including Dr. Yasmin Rashid, were recorded, while the prosecution presented testimony from 56 witnesses. Four accused were declared proclaimed offenders during the proceedings.
In total, the court acquitted 13 accused, including Shah Mahmood Qureshi, while eight accused, including Dr. Yasmin Rashid, were handed 10-year prison sentences.
