Federal Minister for Interior and Narcotics Control Mohsin Naqvi paid a surprise visit to Islamabad International Airport and reviewed the immigration process for two hours.
During the visit, he also met passengers travelling abroad and listened to their concerns and he ordered a crackdown against visa agents.
He said that the agent mafia, driven by greed for money, is playing with the future of innocent people and bringing disrepute to the country. He added that no leniency will be shown to agents who deceive innocent people with false promises of employment and send them abroad illegally.
Mohsin Naqvi took strict notice of complaints about a shortage of staff at immigration on November 7 and ordered an inquiry.
He said that the entire situation will be thoroughly reviewed through CCTV footage and such complaints must not arise in the future.
The Interior Minister made it clear that no passenger with the required travel documents will be stopped from travelling. However, those attempting to go abroad with fake documents or other illegal means are tarnishing the country’s image, and such practices will not be allowed adding that travel cannot be permitted on unverified documents.
